$700 / painting for a single figure portrait, head and shoulders, 11” by 14” up to 20” by 24”.  Prices for multiple figures, larger sizes, complex backgrounds, etc., available upon request.
 
20% of the price is due on approval of the reference photos. The remainder is due on delivery of the finished painting.
 
A 15% commission is granted for referrals.
 
The paintings are oil on stretched canvas. I can arrange professional framing at an additional cost.

The photo shoot:  At our first meeting (or beforehand on the phone), we will discuss the canvas size, pose, background, clothing, and your general ideas for the painting. Then I will take photos of the subject at a location of your choosing. Please have a couple of clothing options available.
 
The photo shoot takes from one to two hours. For small children, we will take breaks or do it in two sessions, depending on how the first goes. About a week after the shoot, I’ll call you to set up a meeting to show you the best of the photos, to determine your preferences. Out-of-towners may do this by email/phone.
 
Final touches: As the painting nears completion, I will call you to view the work-in-progress to see if there are any areas you would like to fine tune.
 
Delivery: I’ll bring (or mail) you the painting. Oil paint can take several weeks to dry, depending on the thickness of the paint. In addition, the time from photo shoot to delivery varies according to the current waiting list for portraits and the complexity of the painting. I can give you an estimate of turn-around time when we begin. Your photo shoot date secures your place in the queue.

I want to be sure you are pleased with your painting. If you are unsatisfied with the final product, I ask that you let me attempt it a second time. If this second try is still not to your liking, I will return your original deposit, no questions asked.
 
Landscape and still life commissions: I will be happy to paint landscape and still life subjects by commission. Prices begin at $500 and increase with the size and complexity of the painting. I can work from your personal photographs (those without copyright limitations) when an on site/from life situation is not possible.
